Year Zero

The new Nine Inch Nails album is called Year Zero, which, just from hearing the name sounds foreboding as hell, so i looked up Year Zero to find out exactly what is meant by the term. the basic answer i got was that it signifies the first year after a revolution of sorts (such as in france where the calendar was actually reset for a short time) which seems appropriate taking into seeming disorientation of ideologies in north america. However the name seems even more pertainant after reading this article in Harpers (i know its 3 years old but it's new to me) by Naomi Klein entitled "Baghdad Year Zero", which really outlines the north american private sectors reasons for supporting the war and the situation created by the US government to create a capitalist, off-shore haven for corporate business, the creation of this state could be the reason for the whole war, which is clearly just disturbing.

Vacsquelcheremin Video!

Politicswatch has been just disturbing the last couple of weeks since it would appear Stephane Dion has, in the National Posts words, "Stockwell Day Syndrome" which is scathing to say the least. I suppose the only reason this really has me worried is that i've always tended to lean in favour of the liberals, this doesnt mean i'm going to jump straight on the harper bandwagon, but come on, the leader makes the party. Unfortunately everyone chose the underdog, but in this case the underdog is just staying the underdog, as much as i have a persistent dislike for michael ignatieff based on his sudden interest in canada after contributing to the US economy for the last 15-20 years at his cushy job at harvard only to come here and attempt to transfer his academic name-power into real power. Most disappointing of all is Dion's open declaration that liberal members will be punished based upon how they vote on recent legislation, something that has happened for years and is the central cause of the lack of democracy we're experiencing in canadian government, or parliament at least. Unfortunately the wheels seem to already be in motion towards an election, hopefully someone will realize Harper is the only one with a chance and slam on the brakes before they spend milions more of our tax dollars on an election, as uncomfortable as it may be, we may be stuck with him for his full term, if he an avoid getting too comfortable like mulroney and chretien the PCs could be in for a while...shudder.

Breadboard of Doom

New circuit design in the works, don't know what for yet.

Vacsquelcheremin!!

This is the original device i built after screwing around with Forrest Mims' 555 Timer Oscillator design, its basiically two of those oscillators wired to gether to make some kind of modulation, it sounds cool nonetheless, i'll post videos of all of my devices once i find out how to shoot videos with my iSight. It shares common circuitry with the atari punk console design though it's probably less well-concieved, i really dont know what i'm doing. so i built 2 oscillators into an altoids tin being controlled by 3 optiosensors, and activated by crunching a big momentary switch down, though i've made one with a switch too, it outputs through a regular 1/4" jack. I just bought bulk timers so i can make these for anyone that wants em email me to discuss a price. I'll try to come up with some sort of schematic too.

First Post

Um, Hello Interweb, i'm basically just going to put up random shots of the sound devices i build in their various stages of building, and throw in some random artwork, photos, i'm going to try to link to sound bytes, as well as cool internet shit, well at least the shit which i think is cool. I'm a third year political science student at the university of western ontario, i play in a band called Fate Machines, and i work on my own musical stuff, i call the project Vacant, hence Vacantia. .... i'm done.
